Coming Fall 2026
The Pansy Hour is an immersive theatrical experience celebrating queer joy and resilience in times of oppression. The show draws inspiration from the legendary pansy craze of the 1920s and early ‘30s, when queer culture was briefly celebrated in the mainstream with art, music, and films—and more importantly, clubs and balls, defiant gatherings where LGBTQ+ people created spaces to be free, seen, and celebrated, even under the constant threat of police raids.
Visitors to a queer history exhibit find themselves transported through time to one pivotal night in a Baltimore pansy club at the tail end of the craze, when queer expression was being forced underground. They’ll be treated to a glittering cabaret of drag, live music, dance, and comedy, while also stepping behind the spotlight to witness the performers’ personal stories…and maybe find themselves caught up in the events of the evening.

The production blurs the line between spectacle and intimacy, weaving dazzling entertainment together with heartfelt reflections on chosen family, ritual, survival, and the radical act of joy.
The “pansy hour” refers to the time of year when pansies are at their most vibrant, just like the fleeting, precious time when queer joy comes alive…before it’s all taken away.
